Large Eddy Simulation of Multi-Phase Flow and Slag Entrapment in Molds with Different Widths

Slag entrapment is a critical problem that affects the quality of steel. In this work, three-dimensional model established to simulate slag phenomenon, mainly focusing on phenomenon at interface between and steel in molds with different widths. The large eddy simulation (LES) discrete particle (DPM) are used movements bubbles. interactions phases involve two-way coupling. accuracy our mathematical validated by comparing slag–metal fluctuations practical measurements. results reveal average velocity transverse decrease as mold width increases, however, they cannot represent severity Due influence bubble motion behavior, maximum increases causes readily, which can reflect entrapment. On basis, monitoring change impact depths molds, new dimensionless number “C” found show criterion C width, consistent flaw detection. Therefore, be molds.
